“I worry it makes me too fragile sometimes – if considering the whelk as sacred is a weakness, if not being able to throw it hard into the water is cowardly.” My chest squeezed in recognition—I often wonder the same. I always worry that my writing is too self indulgent, too self-inserting, but I’m beginning to believe the distinction lies between writing for myself and about myself; writing to experience vs writing to explain. This was a gorgeous experience Maddy 🖤

In awe of your brilliant mind and writing! Something about the line "There is justice in the fiction that only a child can believe in" struck a chord in me. I've been struggling to articulate some ideas I had of hope, faith, and understanding of the world, but this just does it so well.
